Election Day Endorsements

Election Day is coming up on November 5th, Early Voting starts TOMORROW, Saturday, October 26 through Sunday, November 3rd. Keen Berger Day

March 2, 2019 Proclaimed Keen Berger Day It is hard to imagine gathering petitions, pamphleting outside poll locations, hearing reports from the grassroots of the 66th Assembly District, Part A or marching into a County Committee Meeting without the presence of Keen Berger, who announced last month her wish to hand the batton to new talent.  Though we don’t expect her to abandon her fervor or presence in marches and sit-ins for women’s rights, immigration reform, voting rights or any of the other issues she has championed with and for VID. Saturday’s celebration came first among some very special and much-in-demand elected leaders who didn’t want the moment to pass without expressing their appreciation…and among 50 or more VID members who crowded into the small, but highly efficient, VID Clubhouse at 26 Perry St., picking up their petitions for the next primary candidates as they left.   See the definitive momento […]

Feb 14th General Meeting

The Feb 14 General Meeting Passed two Resolutions, Endorsed Two Judicial Candidates, Endorsed Candidate for Female District Leader for the 65th AD and Elected Judicial Delegates. Whew! An epic Feb 14th General Meeting began with VID President David Siffert addressing Governor Cuomo’s proposed budget rule affecting grassroots organizations, requiring anyone giving over $500 to register as a lobbyist.  He said we needed to be together and organized, and mentioned that Deborah Glick and Brad Hoylman were against it, and we needed to work with Deborah. David introduced the Resolution in Support of Public Financing of Elections, which passed 26 in favor and 4 against, with one small amendment. Voted a second time, there were 35 in favor and one abstention. Let the Endorsements Begin… We’d like to congratulate VID’s endorsed candidates: Robert Rosenthal and Ashlee Crawford for Civil Court Judge, Jennifer Hoppe for Female District Leader, Jennifer Hoppe, Allison Stowell, Irene Kaufman, Jonathan Geballe, and Judith Jacobson for Judicial Delegates, and Elissa Stein, Karla Moskowitz, Kathy Slawinski, Ed Yutkowitz, and Lois Rakoff for Judicial Alternates. In addition to the elections, VID passed two resolutions.   The first was in support of public financing of elections and can be found here. The second outlined our legislative priorities for the year.  It is quite long, and can be found here (as amended).
