VID Endorses Brad Hoylman, Hears Issues Around Proposed HMO-Style Managed Care for Seniors

Brad Hoylman Candidate for NYS Senate 29th District

Brad Hoylman endorsed for State Senate. VID held its endorsement meeting for the state Senate, hearing from three candidates: Tanika Inlaw (former president of Yonkers NAACP) and Thomas Greco (Jim Owles and McManus Democratic clubs) both spoke and took questions, as did VID’s own Brad Hoylman (District Leader and Community Board 2 Chairperson). The ballot count showed a resounding endorsement by VID for Brad Hoylman to fill the retiring Tom Duane’s Senate seat. Welcome aboard, Brad, and congratulations.

Now we have more motivation to fill our petitions with signatures: VID will hopefully have both an Assemblymember (Deborah Glick) and a Senator (Brad Hoylman) calling VID their “home club.” How many clubs can claim that honor?

June Meeting’s Featured Speaker. Our featured speaker was Shirley Gray from the Social Services Employees Union Local 371, accompanied by Doris Hernandez Murphy and John M. Land. The subject was Gov Cuomo’s proposal to put care of homebound seniors in the hands of HMO style healthcare providers under a program called Managed Care, essentially moving people from home care to nursing home facilities — and what would ensue if the often doctor-prescribed and desired home care is curbed.

Save the Date:  Next VID General Meeting will be on July 12th
