VID Member Tom Connor Dead at 88

VID Has Lost Another Treasure – Tom Connor Tom Connor, longtime member of VID and of The Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club passed-away on Thursday, August 6th.  A 20-year member of Greenwich House, Center on the Square, and its Advisory Council President for 15 years, Tom also served as a Board Member on Community Board 2 Manhattan and on numerous Committees.  He was known for his focus on the disabled and senior communities, and in most cases an expert on those issues.  His passing follows that of Yvonne Sherwell and Ellen Peterson-Lewis this year. The July 9 General Meeting Passed a Letter and a Resolution; Introduced Speakers on Police Reform and the Blue Ticket in PA Full Meeting Minutes   Zoom Meeting Video President David Siffert opened the July 9 General Meeting pronouncing that the Primary on June 23rd went really well, and congratulated everyone for a really great job.  He said Jerry Nadler and Rachel Lavine were way ahead of their opponents–the closest race was Carolyn Maloney’s, where she and her opponent were within 600 votes.  Joe Biden won the nomination, and Deborah Glick was unopposed. June 11 Meeting Passes Four Resolutions

The Membership Meeting of June 11 Passed Four Resolutions Addressing Voting Rights, Medical Aid in Dying, Police Reform and Definding the NYPD President David Siffert brought the meeting to order, and a motion to adopt the agenda passed.   Resolutions Melissa Carty read her Resolution to Eliminate the 20% Matching Requirement for State Elections and led a discussion.  (This resolution eventually passed by email.) VID Elects 2020 Officers; NYS Candidate Endorsements at January 9th Meeting. David Siffert opened the 2020 Officers; NYS Candidate Endorsements meeting with a discussion about how to handle endorsing civil judge candidates in light of the fact that the County’s panel will not report out approved judges until the day after our February meeting.  He suggested three options: One, to hold a special meeting on the Tuesday after the regular meeting to address the endorsements.
