JOIN THE FIGHT TO KEEP PENNSYLVANIA BLUE
Help Democrats Get Out The Vote in a Battleground State
New Yorkers have a wonderful opportunity to help a battleground state elect Democrats to the Presidency, Senate and House of Representatives in 2016.
Every week from mid-September to Election Day, Democrats from New York will work with our neighbors in the KeyStone State to build support for Hillary Clinton for President; Katie McGinty for the U.S. Senate, and Rick Daugherty for Congress (15th CD).
We’ll go door to door, house to house, and community to community to register and poll voters and encourage them to support Democrats. We’ve made similar efforts in past elections with great success. But it’s never been more important than it is now.
Volunteers will travel by bus from New York City to Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley and neighborhoods in Philadelphia every Saturday: September 17 and 24; October 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29; November 5; and election day, November 8.
Buses will begin boarding at Union Square at 8:30 am and depart at 9 am. Return buses will leave Pennsylvania at 5:30 pm. The trips are about 90 miles, or two hours or so, from New York City. Traffic permitting, we’ll be back at Union Square by 8 pm. ADA buses will be available with advance notice.
The fare is $10, but provisions can be made for financial hardship.
We will do basic training, pair volunteers, and provide talking points and campaign and voter mater on each bus. Volunteers will always canvass in pairs. Our hosts in Pennsylvania will supply voter lists, maps, and lunch.
The Lehigh Valley, which includes the cities of Easton and Bethlehem, has been a battleground area for the past two presidential elections. Republicans have made inroads there and are within striking distance of defeating Democratic Presidential, Senatorial, and Congressional candidates.
The organizations sponsoring our Get Out The Vote effort so far include: Village Independent Democrats, Downtown Independent Democrats, Greater NYC for Change, Samuel J. Tilden Democratic Club, Gramercy Stuyvesant Independent Democrats, Upper East Side for Change, Four Freedoms Democratic Club, Stonewall Democrats, Lexington Democratic Club, Progressive Independent Democrats, 504 Democratic Club, Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club, Lenox Hill Democratic Club, Eleanor Roosevelt Democratic Club and the Barack Obama Democratic Club. We expect to announce more in coming days.
To help defray the cost of the buses, we welcome individual donations in any amount. Make checks out to Village Independent Democrats (Memo PA Buses 2016) and send to Village Independent Democrats, 26 Perry Street, New York, NY 10014.
